I just tried uploading a jpg to a listing and it refused to show the image. It only indicates 'No Image' in the upload administration area. Then when the listing is saved there is no reference to the image from the listing, despite the fact that it's been loaded to the server.
Strangely enough, I managed to get the image to load by adjusting the scale of the image. It was almost square, but off by 1 pixel. I changed the dimensions to be perfectly square and then it worked. I suspect that GD2 may have choked on the thumbnail conversion.
I'm including this in case anyone else comes across something similar.

my issue seems to be the same problem you are facing... however i do not have GD2 handling my images... i am using ImageMagick... I am hoping that this issue can be resolved soon.
